The Adoptive Families in Finland

Adoptioperheet ry - Adoptivfamiljer rf
The non-governmental organization Adoptive Families in Finland is an association for parents of adopted children, for those considering adoption, adoptees, as well as those going through an adoption process both domestic and international. Our aim is to support families at different stages of adoption process, to participate in public discussion about adoption, promote the interest of its members and to improve the legal and social situation of adoptive families.

The association (NGO) is independent of service agencies for adoption.
We are members of Nordic Adoption Council (NAC).
As the new adoption law came into affect in 2012 we contribute as a member of The Finnish Board of Inter-Country Adoption Affairs Council Plenary Session in Valvira (National Suvervisory Authority for Welfare and Health) governed by Ministry of Social Affairs and Health.

Adoptioperheet ry coordinates activities related to peer support and adoption awareness and participates in various networks in social domain.

  • publish the Adoptioperheet magazine four times per year, the only publication in Finland concentrating on adoption
  • provide information about adoption for health and educational professionals, media and families
  • organize members’ meetings, educational seminars and lectures about issues related to adoption
